Jeffers petroglyphs    3/3

We took the drive to southwestern Minnesota to see the petroglyphs (rock carvings) near Jeffers, Minnesota.

n5.jpg The glyph thought to represent a turtle, an animal sacred to many American Indian groups, may reflect a relationship to the underworld. Its representation here may indicate a connection between the rock outcrop and the "below surface world.

p5.jpg This shot gives you a pretty good feeling of what is it like to approach the rock outcroppings and walk up the side of them. You have to stay within the ropes.
p8.jpg Here in the enlarged picture you can see some deer and various symbols. We left no glyph depicting our visit. It's a long trip from the Twin Cities to Jeffers, but I recommend it.
