This fountain of St. Michel is located on the Left Bank across the river and up from Notre Dame. St. Michel
is in the Latin quarter - so called because several colleges where Latin was the language of
knowlege were located there. The name has stuck.

Pay attention to this kind of sign outside cafes - it often lists specials. You can use
them to mentally figure out
in advance how much you are going to pay for lunch or dinner - which you should do. They
usually charge a
cheaper price for the same meal if you eat earlier (before 7 p.m.) as opposed to later.
When the signs disappear, then expect higher prices.

Here is a street scene as we walked along a street in the Latin quarter. We really loved
this part of the city and were glad we stayed in this area.

The first two nights we stayed in this hotel - it was not air conditioned. This is the
view out the window. It was incredibley hot at night - remember that France is having
a record heat wave. This hotel was clearly very old, but the bathroom was new and it
was very clean.

Our last two nights we moved to this hotel and were happy to be spoiled Americans
with an air conditioned room. This place was more expensive but well worth it. We were lucky - there were
less tourists in Paris this year so we were able to find another place to stay.
