Coba Mexico - Ancient Mayan ruins     

We took a bus from our resort to the Mayan ruins of Cobá.

  2s.jpg After walking a mile through the humid jungle here we are for our big climb. The right hand side of the pyramid has it's own god - the ascending god. This is the side you climb up on. The left side, the descending god's side, is for coming down. You can see the rope that is provided, mainly to help those climbing down.
  4a.jpg Our kids on the ascent. The trip to climbing seems to be to weave from side to side as you climb, so that you go up nearly sideways. Apparently that's the way the Mayan priests did it.

  4c.jpg I am climbing up too. I hope this picture gives you an idea of just how steep this climb is.
  4d.jpg I remember how warm and dry the steps of the pyramid felt: after over a thousand years the rock steps still have a sharp edge.
  4e.jpg Nearly at the top now. The climb, while steep, has not been too bad.
  4h.jpg Just a moment ago the tiny people were up on the pyramid. Notice now they are on the ground ....
