1117r.jpg Margaret and I decided to take a walk from the farm into the two small villages up the road. Here we cross the little stream that at one point in time toppled half of St. Mary's church. Frieda remembered that when she and her brother and sisters were growing up her father made several small bridges across this stream so the children could have the run of the farm. The little brook is perhaps the Menach.
1117u.jpg We are going to walk under the autobahn.
1117v.jpg 1117w.jpg Coming out on the other side we encounter fields and a deer stand. We noted quite a few deer stands like this one around the countryside.
1118a.jpg This is somebody's root cellar. Now I wish I had tried to look in it.
1118b.jpg 1118c.jpg Our walk into the two adjoining villages is about two miles. One small village ends and the other begins.
1118i.jpg 1118j.jpg We liked the mirrors placed along the road so you could see if anyone is coming around the corner. Here is another "village farm".
1118l.jpg We are going to pass the farm of our relative Karl - the draping flowers are a dead giveaway.
1118o.jpg This is a bus stand. The picture on the right advertises the fair in Straubing that we attended fair .
1118q.jpg This pub is being rebuilt. The story in our family is that my grandfather and his brother won a fight in this bar but got thrown in jail. Their mother marched right down to the jail in the middle of the night and got them released.

Below are pictures I took as we made our way back to the farm.
