Margaret, Frieda, and I are going to walk cross country to the house of Frieda's neice. I especially enjoyed
this scenic walk. We will walk down some country roads and also
cut through fields and along a stream. I remember it was pretty hot and
we worked up a sweat!

This is "the house of Hilmer". Well, one of the candidates.
My grandfather left Germany after it became
apparent that he would not inherit the farm. He and a man with the last name
of Hilmer from this farm down the road left Germany together.
|
We turned right and walked down the road as it decended to the same small stream
that flows through Wiedenhofen farm. We took a shortcut along the stream to
the next parallel road. Here are grapes growing wild.
|
Frieda had to ask Wasti about the plastic contrivances at the far left. They are
silage bags - silage is the whole plant rather than its grain used as animal feed.
In America silage is normally stored in silos, but here in Germany this method
is used.
Harvesting small grains for silage rather than as grain may mean
increased dollar returns per acre (just so you know). Just at the left a
farmer was out putting his hay into windrows.
|
Isn't this a pretty place? This is the little lane that is used as the
driveway at Martina and Wolfgangs'.
|
I can't tell you how hot it was - maybe you can gauge by noting the
haze in the distance.
|
This is the second candidate for "the house of Hilmer".
|
Look at this big 'ol farmhouse smack dab in Bavaria.
|
As usual the girls are out in front and I, camera always clicking, follow.
There was quite a bit of vertical dimension in our walk this afternoon.
|
One more Lower Bavarian panorama.
We are right on the edge of the Bayrischer Wald (Bavarian woods).
